Institutional Printer Purchases

The following procedures have been established by Information Technology Services (ITS) in order to ensure uniformity of office printers on campus, to limit the number of vendor's products, and to achieve timely support.

If your Department is considering the purchase of a new printer or replacing an existing Printer:

Contact the CPR Center for a consultation.

We currently purchase an extended warranty on all college owned devices, whether purchased by departmental funds or ITS funds. The cost of the extended warranty is included in the purchase of the printer.

We will make the necessary recommendations and present them for your selection.

Once you have made the decision, we will purchase the printer and ensure the proper service contracts are in place.

Upon its arrival we will than prepare the printer for installation, including configuring the printer for the F&M network.

We will then arrange to have the printer delivered to your office, we will also make sure each person using the new printer has the correct printer drivers, and can connect to the printer properly.

If you are experiencing a problem with your current printer:

Contact the CPR Center for a consultation. We may be able to help by use of remote network diagnostics or installation a spare printer cartridge.

We will determine the possible problem and send a representative from ITS to take a look at the printer.

If the printer is in need of repairs, beyond what ITS is able to maintain, the CPR center will contact the appropriate vendor and schedule the repair on your behalf. If there is an extended period of time to wait for a repair technician to complete the necessary repairs, we may be able to provide a loaner.

Toner cartridges:

We suggest that you keep at least one extra toner on hand for your printer at all times, with this method it will ensure a fast turn around time when diagnosing problems.

The CPR center will maintain an inventory of the most commonly used toners. If we do not have a specific toner in our inventory they typically can be ordered and shipped within 48 hours.

For Printers that are out of warranty and are no longer covered by an extended contract, repair costs will be charged to the department.
